CLEFS

A chemist by training, the opportunity to learn piano came to me in later life, when one of my own children decided to ditch piano lessons, and I approached the teacher to see if she would “take me on”! As my interest in music developed, I completed an OU Diploma in Music whilst still working full time. Having reached an advanced level in playing, my piano teacher asked whether I had ever considered becoming a teacher. The seed was sown!

Fast-forward to today and I’ve now been teaching over 15 years, with many pupils coming for lessons each week. The majority of my pupils have come as beginners, though others have taken lessons elsewhere and are now looking to develop further or experience a different approach.  Some wish to play for fun, while others are keen to undertake ABRSM grades and school music qualifications.

Teaching piano has enhanced my life immensely; I feel privileged to be part of so many people’s lives. It is always a delight to observe how each pupil grows and develops, not just in their technical ability and musical understanding, but in their sensitivity to the music they are playing.

Colours

I’ve been interested in art for as long as I can remember, but art was sidelined for French at school, as a more “academic” subject! My interest in art was rekindled after the birth of my first son. I was looking for a way to switch off and relax as he slept, and I started to paint again after joining a local art group. Commissions followed after a few art group exhibitions and I actually purchased my first piano from art sales!

I like to paint in watercolours, pastels, and mixed media, and have covered many subjects; landscapes, seascapes, buildings, animals and still life. I also like to explore other art projects such as collage, mosaics, creative textiles, and paper-making to name a few.
